Local Property Tax 2014 - the confusion continues ....

Last week the Revenue Commissioners issued letters regarding payment of your 2014 Local Property Tax.  The letters have received extensive media coverage.

The letters can, at best, be described as confusing.  If you are liable for Local Property Tax then the following information might be helpful.

• Your Local Property Tax for 2014 is twice the Local Property Tax paid for 2013.

• You are NOT required to file a new Local Property Tax return for 2014 as the Local Property Tax return you filed in May 2013 covers 2014.

• You MUST select how you will pay the Local Property Tax  for 2014 by 7 November 2013 (by paper) or 27 November 2013 (if you choose your method of payment online)

• Your payment methods are:

1.      Single Debit Authority payment will de deducted by Revenue on 21 March 2014 (latest date that payment will be taken by Revenue).  Most of our clients used this method.

2.      Cheque/postal order payments must be made by 7 November 2013.

3.      Direct debit payments will continue each month from January 2014.

4.      Payments by debit card or credit card will be deducted by Revenue immediately.

Remember you MUST go online to select your payment method and you must do so by 27 November.

Over the weekend, Government Ministers expressed views on the confusion caused by last weeks letters.  We may yet see Government intervention.
